The #1 reason why you might make it or break it in boat sales during the COVID-19 crisis

I have a great story that will cheer you up if you are selling boats:


There was once a man who lived by the side of the road and sold hot dogs.

He was hard of hearing, so he had no radio. He had trouble with his eyes, so he read no newspapers and of course he didn’t look at television.

But he sold very good hot dogs and was good at selling lots of them.

He put up signs on the highway telling everyone how good they were, he stood on the side of the road and cried out to all that passed ‘Buy and taste a  delicious hot dog’.

His hot dogs were truly delicious.

Everyday customers returned, bringing along more and more friends.

Business was good, so good that he was able to make a good living out of it and even realized his dream of putting his only son through business school.

One day, when the son was home on vacation, he decided to look into his father’s business.

After observing, the well educated son (who was now in business school) said . . .

“Father, haven’t you been listening to the radio or reading the newspapers or watching television? There’s a big recession happening right now. The current business situation is terrible in this country.”

Hearing this, the father thought, “Well, my son went to university and is now in business school. He is well educated, he reads the papers, listens to radio and watches television, so he might be right.”

The old man began to cut back on the quantity of sausages and bread rolls he bought.

He also cut down on his meat and bun orders, took down all his advertising signs and no longer bothered to stand by the side of the road to promote and sell his hot dogs.

He even went home early and spent more time worrying about this recession that was coming.

His hot dog sales gradually started falling. Customers who were regulars barely visited his stand. He started to worry about the future of his business.

When his son visited home the next vacation, the father came to him and said,

“You were right, son. We certainly are in the middle of a recession.”


The moral of the story?

It’s not when the crisis is over, it’s when will you be over the crisis.
