Dear Broker, It’s Over…

Over a month ago I chose to shut down the Yacht Sales Academy online courses.

It’s OVER.

Because I’ve realized that most brokers — believe it or not — really don’t want to sell more boats.


And as crazy as that sounds, who knows this better than me…

Because after nearly 4 years of trying to help brokers sell more boats, I’ve discovered that most brokers are taking the “pleasure” side of the pleasure boating business a little too “seriously.”

After all, I spent three years giving brokers every single tip, trick, and secret I’ve learned, discovered or developed to help them get bigger commissions.

I have 2,746 brokers signed up to my newsletters and I would say that I’ve corresponded one on one with at least 50% of them. And I’ve heard a collection of excuses from so many sales professionals in our industry.

“Yes, I want this course so bad and I will be your next best student but I can’t enroll today so let’s wait.”

They tell me, “Next week”… “next month”… “next season”…“next commission”…

And, “Next lifetime!”

Now, I know this message may upset some brokers. Fine, I can live with that.

But I didn’t build the Academy to make more friends.

I didn’t build it to be loved by our industry.

I created the Academy to help MOTIVATED brokers sell more boats.

And so, unless you’ve lived under a rock for the last 5 years, sales has drastically CHANGED! (And someone forgot to tell the sales team!)

As I’ve said, traditional boat sales is DEAD.

This year for instance, our brokerage team sold a Sanlorenzo 104 from an Instagram ad, a Sunseeker 73 and a new Monte Carlo 65 from a Facebook ad.

Despite what most brokers believe, boat sales is NOT a numbers game.

My small team sold 7 yachts with a total of 14 boat visits. Yes you read correctly, just 14 visits in total through the whole year!

The “game” is not played anymore in your favourite boat magazine, at your favorite boat shows, or in the shop window of your brokerage office at your local marina.

Today, the game is played ONLINE and in a multi-channel ecosystem.

I see so many people using the “Spray and Pray” method or the even lower standard, “Listing in a Bottle” marketing technique (newsletter coming soon about this!).

Now, back to why I’ve decided to stop selling courses…

Not long ago, I read a study from the International Association for Continuing Education and Training. It said that 94% of students enrolled in online training do NOT complete the training they’re enrolled in. Nor do they get any significant results from them. This means that only 6% of people get results.

And to me, this is unacceptable.

So, here’s the BAD NEWS: if you want to buy a course today. It’s not possible anymore.

➡️ As for the GOOD NEWS? Well, now I can personally help you grow your boat sales IF you meet these 2 criteria:

Criteria #1: You own a brokerage firm OR you’re an experienced broker ready to invest in serious growth.

Criteria #2: You must be willing to ditch the “traditional way” and adapt to the “new way” of selling boats in 2019.
